Description
Are you looking for a sword that isn’t just a piece of decoration, but a true tool reflecting the soul of a warrior? The 47 Ronin Katana by John Lee is a tribute to one of the most powerful Japanese legends of boundless loyalty and honour. This sword has been designed for practical use and cutting tests (Tameshigiri). Its heart is a blade made of highly durable 9260 spring steel, which can withstand technical errors that would be fatal for ordinary carbon steel. If you want a sword that combines historical heritage with modern metallurgical resilience, you have just found it.
The name of the sword refers to an incident from the early 18th century, known as the revenge of the 47 Ronin (Akō Rōshi). After the unjust death of their lord Asano Naganori, who was forced to commit seppuku due to the intrigues of the corrupt official Kira Yoshinaka, his 47 samurai became Ronin – warriors without a master. Instead of dispersing, they patiently planned their revenge for two years. In the end, they executed Kira and then voluntarily committed ritual suicide to follow their lord. This sword is a reminder that honour and loyalty are sharper than any steel and should reflect the strength and faith of the Ronin.
The main advantage of this Katana is its blade. It is forged from 9260 spring steel. This material (alloyed with silicon) is prized in the fencing community for its incredible toughness and ability to return to its original shape after bending. The blade is shaped in the Shobu-Zukuri style (iris leaf shape), a geometry that excels in creating a smooth and fluid cut, ideal for slashing soft targets. Since the steel is through-hardened for maximum flexibility (approx. 55 HRC), you won’t find a genuine clay-tempered hamon here – the temper line on the blade is created by brushing to maintain the traditional appearance.
The handle (Tsuka) is an honest piece of craftsmanship. The wooden core is covered with genuine ray skin, ensuring the sword won’t slip in your hand. The wrapping (Tsuka-ito) is made of black leather in the Hineri-Maki style, which gives the grip firmness and longevity. The overall look is complemented by a black lacquered scabbard (Saya) with buffalo horn fittings and a high-quality, two-tone Sageo.
